

Susie Bean Plemons passed away peacefully on August 16,2012 at Baylor University Medical Center, surrounded by her three children. Since August 1, she fought a courageous battle with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Susie was born in her family’s home in Mantachie, Mississippi on Christmas morn 1933. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1952 and attended Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi Women’s College; she graduated in 1954 with an associate’s degree in home economics. She came to Dallas in 1961 to visit friends and decided to make Dallas her new home. She married Frank Lafayette Plemons on March 21, 1964, built a home in Highland Park, where they lived and raised a family. She worked at Southland Corporation Insurance Company for 27 years. She was a devout member of Park Cities Baptist Church for almost 50 years. She taught Sunday school, worked in the nursery, volunteered at Brother Bill’s and cherished the members and her involvement in the Ruth Glaze Sunday School Class. Susie enjoyed the company of her friends for monthly bridge games. She excelled at southern style cooking and was an accomplished seamstress. She never lost her Mississippi accent and every aspect of her life had her southern style, character, and grace. She loved to garden and spend time with her family, especially her grand children. Upon retirement from the Southland Corporation in 2001, her family suspected that she would travel the world. Instead, she chose to attend her family reunion each summer in Mississippi and make numerous trips to Brooklyn, NewYork to see her grand children. She also never missed her high school class reunion in Fulton, Mississippi, recently attending her sixty-year celebration. Susie is preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Plemons Sr.; mother, Jennie Mae Loden Bean; father Wiley Holder Bean; brothers: Wiley Bean, Joe Bean, Johnny Bean, and Gayle Bean; and her sister Jeannie Bean Moore. Susie is survived by her children: Susanna Plemons of Dallas; Roxanna Plemons Velandria and husband, Ed of Brooklyn, New York; and Frank L Plemons Jr. and wife Renee Michelle Plemons of Austin; her brothers Billy Bean of Racine, Wisconsin and Dee Witt Bean of Iuka, Mississippi; and sisters Mary Bean Buckner of Jackson, Mississippi and Eula Bean Anderson of Shreveport, Louisiana and grand children, Sarah and Sam Velandria and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Thursday August 23, from 6 pm - 8 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Her memorial service will be at Park Cities Baptist Church in Ellis Chapel on Friday August 24, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow in Ellis Parlor. She will be interned at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Saturday August 25, at 11:00am. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Park Cities Baptist Church Children’s, Senior Adult and Brother Bill’s Ministries.
