February 1, 1929 – August 9, 2022
Teresa was born on February 1, 1929, in El Paso, Texas, the 8th of 9 children born to Andrea Narvaez and Louis Payne. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 9, 2022.
Teresa was a devout Catholic, receiving communion almost until her last day. Because of her devotion to God the Father and the Blessed Mother, she was known to place a scapular on family members who were sick or dying. She prayed incessantly for those in need and for the safety of all.
Anyone who knew Teresa knows her family meant everything to her. Her happiest days were those spent with her family during the holidays, on birthdays and anniversaries, and just sitting around the kitchen table reminiscing. Nothing gave her more joy than talking about her big, growing family.
Teresa was a talented machine embroiderer, working for National Embroidery Company for decades. Her designs and expert work graced many garments and home furnishings. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles, but her favorite pastime was cleaning house; her home was always spotless. She also loved dressing up on special occasions; her hair and makeup always perfect.
One of her favorite things to do was finding the most popular and noisiest toys for her grands and great grands. One of the favorites being a wind-up toy puppy that walked forward a few steps, stopped and barked a few times, then turned a flip right before their eyes! The kids were always so amazed, and she got a kick out of seeing their reaction! She was truly a kid at heart.
Because her loved ones were so special to her, she made a point to pick the perfect birthday card for each person. It was almost as if the card were written specifically for the recipient. And she always underlined words in the sentiment to add impact; she wanted them to know she meant every word.
If Teresa loved you, she made sure you knew it. She never ended a telephone conversation without saying “I love you”. She gave the biggest and best hugs; so many have commented how good they felt after one of her hugs. She had a beautiful smile that also radiated through her beautiful blue eyes. She loved big with all her heart! She was a confidant to many and a friend to all.
Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Louis, whom she married on March 3, 1950. They enjoyed almost 63 years together before he passed on February 12, 2013. She is also preceded by her loving son, Robert, a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Vietnam.
She is survived by her children: Mary Lou Devine (Bob), Yolanda Macias, and Louis Macias, Jr. (Patricia); sister, Carmen Aceves; 8 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to family friend, Mary Jean Bennett, who cared for Teresa on several occasions.
There’s a quote that says “Don’t wait until it’s too late to tell someone how much you love them. Because when they are gone, no matter how loud you shout and cry, they won’t hear you anymore”. In Teresa’s honor, please say the words “I love you” to your loved ones. And while you’re at it, give them a big hug, too.
