Terry Wayne Raney of Paradise, Texas passed away on August 16th, 2019 at the age of 72 years. He was born in Dallas and after a brief time in Early, Terry spent most of his young life growing up in Brownwood. Circumstances caused him to have to move to Temple to finish school, but he always considered Brownwood his high school. He loved attending Brownwood homecomings, seeing the Lyons play and seeing his classmates. He never missed one. The class even voted his wife Pat in as an honorary class member. After graduating in 1965, he joined the Navy where he served in Okinawa, Japan for four years as a Communications Technician Petty Officer 3rd Class during the Vietnam war.
Terry loved his family and was so proud of his sons and grandchildren. He loved family gatherings. He and Pat hosted many Thanksgiving dinners where the more that came, the happier they were. He never missed a Raney Christmas party. He loved his brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces. He didn’t miss an Austin/Raney Family reunion and looked forward to it every year. Family was his number one priority.
After twenty-seven years, Terry retired from Northwest ISD in 2013 to care for the love of his life and wife of thirty years Patricia, who preceded him in death in 2016. Before his health declined Terry had a servant’s heart. He was there to help anyone that needed anything. He would let you know he wasn’t happy if he found out you didn’t call him if you needed help.
Proverbs 18:24 “…a friend sticks closer than a brother.” That describes Terry Raney to a T. He will be missed!
Terry is survived by his sons Jason Raney and Danny Merriman, step-sons Landon Porter and Jason Porter, seven grandchildren, siblings Janet Kelley, Robert Raney, Rodney Raney, Stacy Raney and in-laws Shirley Raney, Valery Raney and Clifton Kelley. He was preceded in death by his father Cleveland Raney, mother Wanda Munsch, brothers Tommy Raney, Stevie Raney, Glen Raney, step-father Calvin Munsch and step-son Derek Porter.
