
He leaves behind his loving wife Helen, his daughters Michelle Bryant and husband Will and daughter Isabella, Alyssa Gruen and her fiancé Sasha Sicular, and stepdaughter Cathy Bogaerts. He also leaves behind his mother Ethel Gruen, his brother Dan Gruen and wife Grace Bascope and sisters Naomi Schlinke and husband Brit Schlinke, and Deborah Gruen. Ted was pre-deceased by his beloved father Ronald Gruen and his beloved son Aaron Zachary Gruen.
Ted earned his BA and MA in Political Science at UCLA and was nearing a PhD in Arabic Studies at UC Berkeley when he returned to Dallas in 1976. For the next 40 years he served as a most capable real estate manager. Ted was an enthusiastic member of the Navy Club and an active collector and expert in Majolica. Ted and Helen were also enthusiastic members of Congregation Anshei Torah. Above all, Ted was a dedicated family man, especially in his love for his granddaughter Isabella.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas. Graveside services and burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at Ted and Helen’s home at 11810 Hampstead Lane at 6 pm. Donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Aaron Zachary Gruen Endowment Fund at Yavneh Academy, 12324 Merit Dr., Dallas, Texas, 75251.
