Dr. Theodore Herring, Jr., MD of Houston, beloved husband of Carmen Herring, for 17 years, passed away peacefully by the one he laughed with and lived for, and loved, on November 16, 2017. Herring was born on the 15th day of April, 1941, to parents, Mr. Theodore Herring Sr. and Mrs. Myra Elizabeth Herring Simpson. Both are deceased. Herring was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he lived most of his life. After graduating from High School in Battle Creek, Michigan, he attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in June 1963. While at Andrews, he joined a group of call Porters and they used the Books of the Bible to spread the word of God. He loved this work and would speak of how pastors from different churches would welcome them to speak and doors were open to visit the members of their congregation. Herring accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. He attended church school and kept the teachings he had learned throughout his life. He rededicated his life to Christ and has kept the faith. In 2011, Herring and his wife, Carmen, with much prayer co-founded Faith to Salvation Ministries while God the Father, the Founder Leads and Guides. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, men and women come together to pray. In 2016, Herring and Carmen were inspired by God to spearhead a Prayer Conference in Dallas. The conference was such a blessing for those who attended, and the Herrings, on August 11 and 12, 2017, spearheaded another conference in Dallas. Herring had some health challenges at the conference, but it did not stop him from speaking and praising God. After graduating from Andrews University, he was accepted into Loma Linda Medical School in California on September 1963, and graduated with his Medical Degree in June 1968. His accomplishments are many: he began his internship at Riverside General Hospital in Riverside, California, in August 1968-1969. He accepted a residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialty at White Memorial Center in Los Angeles, California, in August 1969. Upon completing his residency in August 1972, he relocated to Chicago to do his post-graduate work at Cook County Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, in October 1974. Upon completing his training in November 1974, he moved to Denver, Colorado, and joined the Park Hill SDA Church and was ordained as Elder under the leadership of Pastor Edgecomb. Herring also joined the faculty as Clinical Instructor at the University of Colorado Medical Center. In 1974, he founded the Miles High Women’s Clinic. In 1987, Dr. Herring relocated to Texas where he joined City Temple SDA under the leadership of Pastor Thompson. Herring was a Professor at University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, and he was Medical Director of Aaron Women’s Health Center. While working and attending church service in Houston, he met the beautiful, outgoing educator, Carmen Williams Dawson whom he fell in love with and married. He was the founder and Director of A Affordable Women’s Medical Center. He was also, along with his wife, Carmen, the Medical Director overseeing Affordable Christian Counseling Services in Houston, Texas. Herring is Board Certified and obtained licensures in Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgery in 1970 in Colorado, 1974 in California, and 1974 in Texas. Dr. Herring’s Texas licensure is still active. Professional Association Memberships include: American Medical Association, American Fertility Society, American College of Surgeons, National Medical Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, International College of Surgeons and The Royal Society of Medicine, London. Theodore served in the Military at Darnall U.S. Army Hospital, III Corps, MEDDAC, Fort Hood, Texas, OB-GYN Ward Officer. He received an Honorable Discharge. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 17 years, Carmen Herring; sons, Dr. Theodore M. Herring III (Teymi) of Columbia, Maryland, Jason L. Herring (Merline) of Galveston, Texas; daughter, Dr. Lisa M. Sovory of Loma Linda, California; brother, C. Bruce Herring (Dorine) of Bostic, North Carolina; sisters, Yvonne E. Hodges (James, deceased) of Houston, Texas and Doralyn E. Thomas (Milton) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
