Married for over 16 years. Moved 6 times together. Built 2 houses. Received 1 MBA (of course he graduated #1 in his class at SMU). Raised 2 kids, had countless disagreements, made up countless times. We could literally never decide what was for dinner, we both should’ve been much thinner.
We were truly quite opposite from one another. If you knew him, you knew that if he was knowledgeable about a subject, he was an expert. There was no room for mediocrity. Except for me, I was his mediocre. And that’s how we made it work.
Our children are the best of us. Georgia is the female version of him plus my talkative, never met a stranger conversational skills, plus his dry sense of humor. John Rhys is my sweet, soft spoken boy, who tells the funniest, most inappropriate jokes, who will have to become a man too soon. John Rhys has every ounce of strategic, analytical ability that Tom did, if not more. These children are hands down the greatest accomplishment of Tom’s life. They will tell you he was tough on them, he held them to a higher standard. He expected the best, all the time. No exceptions.
I’m sure everyone he ever worked with will also tell you that he expected the best, all the time, from them. Even if it was someone he reported to. But he also loved to play pranks in the office.
Tom graduated from Wofford College in 1999. He then started his career in banking in Charlotte, NC. Tom and his wife moved to Dallas, TX, in 2005, with Wachovia. Tom received a PMBA from SMU, in 2010, graduating #1 in his class, all the while working full-time and managing to squeeze study-abroad trips in to Hong Kong and Chile. He joined Regions Bank as a Managing Director in 2014. He was selected as a national 40 under 40 for his industry in 2017. He absolutely loved recruiting new talent and managing his team.
Tom passed away in Dallas, Texas, unexpectedly, on 1/13/22 (not COVID).
Tom leaves behind his children, John Rhys (11) and Georgia (9); his wife, Sarah; his parents, Shirley and Tom Floyd of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
A a celebration of life for Thomas will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Oak Highlands Brewery, 10484 Brockwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75238. The family requests that you be fully vaccinated if you choose to come. Thank you for understanding.
Adults only, por favor. #sköl
