Tom was born in Olean, New York, on March 3, 1932, to Francis (Mose) and Marie Laverty. He graduated from Olean High School in 1949 and went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering from The University of Tulsa. On April 16, 1955, Tom married the love of his life, Dr. Vivian Mae Laverty (Dickey), in Buffalo, New York. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage.
Tom dedicated his career to petroleum engineering, working for Sun Oil until 1973 and then P-R-O Management, Inc. where he eventually took over ownership. Ever generous with his time, Tom delighted in sharing his extensive knowledge of the oil and gas business with anyone who would listen. Outside of his work, he found great joy in photography and cherished a wonderfully diverse love of music. A devout Catholic, Tom lived his faith actively through his church, as well as through his involvement with the Petroleum Club of Dallas and the Oil and Gas Producers of Osage County, Oklahoma.
Tom is survived by his children Kerry Laverty, John Laverty, and his wife Lisa. Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, on March 7, 2024.
