

Tom was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and continued to serve him and others throughout his lifetime. He was a faithful member of Kiestwood and Windsor Park Baptist Churches for a combined 61 years.
When Tom was 15, he enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and went to Japan and Korea for 15 months between his junior and senior year of high school. He served in the National Guard for 25 years and retired with the rank of Major. After graduating from Haskell High School in 1953, he attended Oklahoma University and earned his bachelors in Civil engineering and masters in Sanitation Science. On August 29, 1959, Tom married Lora Highfill after dating for just two months. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and were often said to ‘be such a cute couple’.
Tom loved with a servant’s heart. He was instrumental in establishing Heart for Ethiopia, a non-profit Christian organization that partnered with ministry in Ethiopia. Closer to home, he donated land for the development of a Korea Veterans memorial in Haskell Oklahoma. Tom taught many years of Sunday School, led Royal Ambassador boys, and volunteered countless hours overseeing the building of Windsor Park Baptist Church. He was well known for helping people in need.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Shriver, brother Frank Shriver, and son-in-law Thomas Reeves. Surviving Tom, in addition to his wife Lora (Highfill) Shriver, are his daughter Kathleen Reeves of Carrollton Tx; daughter Sandra Kinerd and her husband Jimmy Kinerd of The Colony Tx; grandchildren Victoria Kinerd, Colleen Kinerd, Heather Kinerd, and Nicholas Reeves; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations to honor Tom’s legacy may be made to Windsor Park Baptist Church (750 W Pleasant Run Rd, DeSoto TX 75115) or Heart for Ethiopia (305 Jordan Dr, DeSoto Tx 75115).
