Thomas Doyle Tolleson, May 27, 1933 – January 17, 2014. After a bravely fought battle against cancer since July, 2013, Thomas Doyle (AKA “Foots”, “TD”, and “Doyle”) Tolleson passed from this world into the next and was reunited with his wife of 52 years, Leora Alvie Parker Tolleson, who preceded him in death on July 17, 2007, exactly 6 years and 6 months earlier. He is survived by his two sons, Tony and Deric Tolleson, daughter in law (Tony’s wife) Hiroko, grandsons Terry Tolleson, Thomas “Tom” Tolleson, Timothy “Tim” Tolleson, grand-daughter in law (Timothy’s wife) Lauren Miranda “Kitty” Tolleson, great-grandson William and great-grand-daughter Chandler (children of Terry), and great-grandson Jack, son of “Tim” and “Kitty”, and many nieces , nephews, and aunts. He is also survived by numerous folks that can only be described as “family by choice”. Born in Cass County, TX, his family live in several locations including the community of Union Hill, the city of Pittsburg, TX, and later Atlanta, TX, where he worked as a teenager in his family’s “Filling Station” and learned to repair cars before he was licensed to drive. His first driver’s license was a “hardship license” issued when he was 14. A USAF veteran who enlisted at the age of 17 and served in England and the US during the Korean War, Thomas was also proud to be a 32-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, retiring as a Captain in 1987, having commanded several different Divisions during his service. Services will be held at the Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, TX 75228. Visitation / Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014, and a “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Monday, January 20, at 2 p.m. Because Thomas Doyle Tolleson loved to wear hats, the family requests that men who regularly wear hats bring their favorite hat to the Visitation and/or Celebration Service. The family also wishes to name “The 3rd Thursday Lunch Bunch” and Dallas Police Department retirees everywhere as Honorary Pall Bearers. Arrangements under the direction of Grove Hill Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
