Our precious and beloved father, Papa, brother, uncle and dear friend Toby Mora Moreno was born in Waco, Texas to Cruz and Martina Moreno on October 17, 1930. He resided in Dallas, Texas before relocating in November 2009 to California to be cared for by his daughter Lucy and son-in-law Steve. He was married to Betty Stevenson for 27 years and raised four daughters. Toby was divorced from Betty at the time of his passing and lived peacefully with his daughter Lucy and son-in-law Steven Munn, grandson, Sergey Moreno, in San Carlos California. He was an upholsterer by trade and started out at Goodwill Industries before going to work for Campbell’s Upholstery where he worked for 40 years before retiring. He was gifted with his hands and had a keen eye for detail. Toby was a devoted employee and worked hard to support his family. After retiring his primary focus was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them dearly and adored them all. They were, without a doubt, the sunshine of his life.
Toby was a devoted Catholic and was a longtime member of St. Phillips Catholic Church while living in Dallas. After moving to California, he attended St. Gregory Catholic Church in San Mateo and St. Charles Catholic Church in San Carlos. He loved playing bingo on bingo nights at St. Phillips Church when he was raising his family and attending the annual church carnival. He attended church service every Sunday with his four daughters, encouraged them to have a strong relationship with Jesus and lived out his faith by example. He continued his love of playing bingo with the seniors in California and was known as the bingo champion. He loved going to the movies regularly with his daughter Lucy and watching action movies. He loved watching all kinds of sports on television and liked to binge watch CSI, Law and Order and Bones TV series but more than anything he loved being with his family.
Our Dad Toby was loved by everyone who knew him for his kindness, quiet unassuming way, sense of humor, his selfless personality, strength to fight all the obstacles he had in front of him and how he did it so effortlessly and his unwavering devotion to his family. He always thought of the other person before himself. He was an inspiration to his family and we never ever questioned his love for us. He loved his family, friends, caregivers deeply and unconditionally. He caught everyone’s attention when he entered a room everywhere he went by his quiet and humble manners. Everyone wanted to know him, to spend time with him, to be his friend and to care for him. He was the glue that kept our family together and he will always live and shine brightly in our hearts.
Toby was preceded in death by his beloved father Cruz Moreno, mother Martina Moreno, stepmother Lupie Moreno, daughter Teresa Moody, granddaughter Sherry Watts, sisters Ramona (Moreno) Tarango and Simona (Moreno) Pina.
Toby is survived by former wife Betty Adams, of Dallas, Texas, daughters Mary and son-in-law Marshall Miller of Dallas, Tx, Lucy Munn and son-in-law Steven Munn of San Carlos, Ca, Frances Moreno of Dallas, Tx. brothers Juaquin Moreno, Augustine Moreno, Philip Moreno and sister Rosie Roblez. Grandchildren Crystal Watts, Ashley and Jake Hartgroves, Mindy Hoftender, Robert and Shanea Moreno, Candace and Jonathan Moreno, Scott Pawlik, Andrew Smith and Shaylyn Moreno. Survived by 10 precious great-grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
Pallbearers will be grandson’s Robert Moreno, KC Wilkinson, Scott Pawlik, Sergey Moreno, Jake Hartgroves and nephew Ricky Robles.
