Dr. McCarty began performing bariatric surgery in 1998 after completing 8 years of surgical training. He trademarked and patented the Mini sleeve and was experienced with complex revision surgery. This is devasting to learn about Dr. McCarty's death. He did my GP surgery over 17 years ago. He helped me at a time when I had no other help. The world truly lost a treasure!!

I just learned of Dr. McCarty's passing. He was one of my mentors during my surgical residency at Baylor hospital in Dallas. He was a great teacher and was a critically important part of the training of many surgeons throughout the country. As a resident we were often called to the emergency room at all hours and it was very hard to maintain composure under extreme fatigue and stress. Dr. McCarty had also done his residency at Baylor prior to me. I always remembered when he returned after his fellowship one of the ER doctors telling me how Dr. McCarty was always a "class act" when going through the very difficult residency. He always was when I knew him. A great mentor and surgeon. He will be sorely missed

Words can not express how devastating this is. Dr Mccarty saved my life through his skill and expertise in bariatic sugery. His vitamins and protein are the only things my stomach can hold down till date. I will always be grateful to have met him. I also got to meet and know Crystal. A sweetheart. May God comfort his family. He will be dearly missed. Never forgotten.

Dr McCarty worked with Dr Joseph Kuhn back in 2002 when I had my bariatric surgery at Baylor. Dr Kuhn did my surgery but both doctors were wonderful with such great bedside manners. I had a roommate after surgery and her doctor was Dr McCarty. My oh my how the ladies in the WL groups swooned over him at our meetings. He and Dr. Kuhn will both truly be missed. Many prayers and thoughts to his family.

I always rememeber Todd talking about his family and being a pioneer in surgery. He was always thinking of how to do things in new and better ways. One time back in ~2005/6 he was telling me about a project he and his son were working on to build something mechanical that would accomplish a task. If I remember right, his son wanted to start with a small marble and eventually have it pour a cup of coffee. They were almost there and he was thinking about the last step to move the coffee pot. We kicked around some ideas and he was so happy to report back the next day when they made it work! He talked about it with me for years after. You will be missed. RIP.
