Tommie Joyce Hughes

Tommie Joyce Hughes, age 92, passed away on May 29, 2022 in Kaufman, Texas. She was born on March 2, 1930 in Athens, Texas to her parents, Charlie and Mabel McCool. Tommie was raised in Athens where she graduated from Athens High School in 1947. She went on to marry Bernard Hughes in 1950, and the couple had nine children. Tommie took pride in being a homemaker and caring for her family.

In her spare time, she loved watching Soap Operas, Westerns, Game Shows, and listening to Country and Gospel music.

Her family and friends will always remember her as a funny, loyal, classy, well-mannered, respectful, sympathetic and strong person.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Loyd Hansford McCool, Wesley Jo McCool, Harmon “Buddy” Trammell McCool; her sisters, Frances Laverne Cox, and Zerelda Jane Fogelberg and her husband, Bernard Cooper Hughes.

Tommie is survived by her children, Judy and Jim Fielder of Kaufman, Robert Hughes of Paris, Georgia Mahan of Mesquite, Larry Hughes of Canton, Vickie Fielder of Kaufman, Wesley Hughes of Kaufman, Allen Hughes of Kaufman, Ann Day of Kemp, and James Hughes; grandchildren, Jamie and Jeffrey Fielder, Brian Hughes; Shawn, Grady, and Chad Mahan; Cherie Homer; Courtney, Corey and Corrine Hughes; and Jennifer McGovern; great-grandchildren, Makinsey, Aubreyanna, Kobe, Brooke, Randi, Trenton, Colby, Josh, Hannah, Sarah, Tobiie, Ava, Nathan, Riley, Reese, Honesty, and Zoe; great-grandchildren, Myra, Kaizen, and Noah; in laws, Gayle McCool, Wanda McCool, Mary Sue Hughes, and Ranson and Cheryl Hughes along with numerous nieces and nephews.
