Toni was born September 24, 1949, in San Diego, California, to Anton Marek and Marge Woodward. She is preceded by her parents and sister Barb Avis. Toni is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 26 years, Larry Murphy; her daughter, Stefanie Lee and her husband Danny; daughter Lori Archie and her husband Jimmy; grandchildren Ryan, Maddie, Ella, Wallace, and Bryn; stepdaughter Jodie Murphy; her sister, Margie Jones and brothers Jim McDade and John McDade; and her many relatives and friends.
Toni pursued her career while raising her daughters, Stefanie and Lori, living in Iowa and Illinois before moving to Dallas in 1983 for a new opportunity. She built a successful professional career taking on the role of director of telecommunications at St. Paul Medical Center. Five years later Toni launched the first of two successful consulting firms, Baych Nelson and then Vertex Consulting Group and would later go on to sell both those businesses. She was on the boards of directors of ASHE, the largest association of professionals who help build maintain, and operate health care facilities nationwide and HIMSS. Toni was truly a pioneer in an emerging industry instituting telecommunication systems for hospitals, banks and legal offices, while building a solid reputation as someone determined and committed to her clients. Toni is regarded as a mentor to many with whom she worked.
Toni met her devoted husband Larry in 1983. While they led separate lives at that time, Toni made an indelible impression on Larry and he knew in his heart they would one day be together. They married in 1995 and their love and respect for each other is apparent to all who know them. Toni is recognized by family, friends, and colleagues alike as a very loving person. While her circle was wide, she loved to meet new people. Traveling was a favorite recreation for Toni, cruising to places such as the Mediterranean Sea in the company of her family. Toni had a disarming charm and wanted everyone around her to feel loved. Family was everything to Toni. Making memories and enjoying family traditions with Larry and their daughters Stefanie and Lori gave her such joy, but none more than having their traditional Christmas Eve dinners at Kobe.
Toni was always at her finest when in the company of her grandchildren and her many dogs over the years. She prided herself on having very unique relationships with each one of her grandkids, loving them unconditionally. Toni’s father instilled in her a great admiration for dogs and over the course of her life they were a great source of joy and entertainment, particularly in her final years with her Brussels Griffon, Smooch.
Toni savored her life to the fullest and leaves a loving impression on all who knew her best.
