Toula “Dimitra” Mihalopoulos was born on April 4, 1930 in Kato Hora/Nafpaktos, Greece. She immigrated to the United States in 1952 where she married Gus Mihalopoulos, her loving husband of 60 years. The couple settled in Chicago, Illinois to raise their three children before moving to Dallas in in 1977. Gus and Toula owned several successful restaurants in both Dallas and Chicago. Toula was known for her strong work ethic, hospitality and her love of sharing her amazing meals and pastries. She described herself as “strong Greek woman,” surviving war, famine and illness while remaining sharp in mind and spirit until her final days. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she spent her retirement years being an active part in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The youngest of eight children, she is survived by her sister Migdalou Vergos. She is also survived by her daughter Kathy Vergos and husband Spiro, her son Frank Mihalopoulos and wife Maryann, son John Mihalopoulos and wife Katie, nine grandchildren and their spouses and six great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as an elegant woman with a strong will, generous heart, and love of feeding and caring for all of those who were lucky enough to know her. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 7th at 7:00 p.m., and funeral service on Monday, January 8th at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or UT Southwestern Medical Center. Special thanks to Dr. Randall Rosenblatt and Dr. John Warner and the physicians and nurses at UT Southwestern Medical Center for their loving care. May Toula’s memory be eternal.

I didn't know Toula, but I know her son, Frank. The man is he is a great reflection on how she loved her children and raised them to be outstanding adults. My prayers and thoughts are with the family in this difficult time.
