‘The life of the party,’ ‘the brightest light in the room,’ ‘the funniest guy around.’ These are just a few of the phrases frequently used to describe the personality of Trevor Norris Cadigan. He filled the hearts of all who knew him with his smile, zany personality, humor, and zest for living. Simply said, he was an energetic force of nature.
Trevor passed from this life on March 11, 2018, in a tragic helicopter accident in New York City. Trevor Cadigan and Brian McDaniel, his friend from both grade school and high school, were capping off a weekend adventure in the Big Apple when the accident occurred.
Trevor was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 26, 1991, to Jerry and Caton Cadigan. His big sister Kathleen welcomed him into this world, and formed an instant bond with her little brother. From the moment Trevor was born, he charmed his way through life. Even as a toddler, his teachers at the Baylor School for Children affectionately referred to him as “Mr. Happy.”
Trevor attended St. John’s Episcopal School and graduated 8th grade with this supportive community. Throughout his time at St. John’s, he entertained his fellow classmates with his antics and humor. He graduated from Bishop Lynch High School in 2010 where he channeled his passion for entertainment by making videos and anchoring “BL Live,” the student run news broadcast. He also became legendary at Bishop Lynch for his alternate television persona, “Typical Teen.” On a weekly basis, the students at BL were treated to a life lesson from Trevor, a.k.a. Typical Teen.
After Trevor graduated from high school, he continued his passion for television and decided to major in Broadcast Journalism at SMU. Throughout college he continued making videos, and anchored SMU’s television news broadcasts and contributed to the student newspaper. In 2015, he followed in his father’s footsteps and interned at WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas.
It was in college where Trevor also found his passion for the Chinese language. After numerous hours of studying and thousands of notecards, Trevor developed a proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. He then spent two consecutive summers visiting Beijing, China to continue learning the language. After all of his studies, Trevor was proud to boast that he was fluent in Mandarin.
Trevor graduated with honors from SMU in 2016. He was inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha, the National Honor Society for Journalism. Trevor was a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society. He also received the Philip H. Solomon Award in World Languages and Literature for Chinese. He was working towards getting his MBA and planning for a career in international business.
In October 2017, Trevor began an internship working at Business Insider in New York City. Trevor loved New York and enjoyed the many opportunities offered by the Big Apple. He documented almost every aspect of his New York life through his entertaining videos, website, and Instagram.
Throughout his life, Trevor was a loyal friend who never met a stranger. Every single person Trevor ever met was immediately captivated by his energy and joy for life. He had an infectious smile that made everyone feel welcomed and comfortable in his presence.
Trevor leaves behind his two loving parents whom he constantly kept entertained, his sister with whom he never missed a daily call or FaceTime, his brother-in-law Travis Howard, his beloved Granny, Mary Adaline Allen, with whom he was very close, and family friend Sharon Gunn. Trevor also leaves behind many close relatives and the group known collectively as “the cousins.” He was fortunate enough to have developed numerous groups of friends from his days at St. John’s, Bishop Lynch, SMU, and everything in between.
Despite the insurmountable grief Trevor’s family and friends feel from his passing, they take joy in knowing that he is now lighting up the heavens with his wide smile and radiant personality.
A memorial service for Trevor will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday March 23rd, 2018, at the Church of the Incarnation: 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204. In lieu of flowers, Trevor’s family asks donations be made to the Trevor Cadigan Memorial Scholarship Fund for Broadcast and Digital Journalism at Bishop Lynch High School. It is the family’s hope that funds from this scholarship go to students, who like Trevor, are driven to pursue careers in Broadcast and Digital Journalism.
