

Uvern “Speedy” Johnson affectionately known as Papa was born January 27, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas and passed away Sunday May 22, 2022 in Dallas, TX. He was the youngest child of Lillie B. and Herman Johnson Sr who Preceded him in death.
Uvern attended Scipio A. Jones High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas where he graduated with honors in 1963. There he served as the President of the Thespian Society, and a member of Senior Hi-Y, Senior Choir, Science Club, French Club, and the Newspaper Staff.
After completing his high school education, he then enrolled in Bishop College where he became a member of Mu Gamma chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. on April 8, 1965. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree Education 1970.
Uvern began his career with DISD in 1971. He later became one of the first teachers at the start of Booker T. Washington for the Performing and Visual Arts where he educated and inspired the minds of students and was an inspiration in the History department for over 30 years.
On June 19, 1976 Uvern united in Holy Matrimony to his Loving and Devoted Wife of 46 years Ruby Jean Johnson.
Uvern is proceeded in death by his sister Helen Johnson.
He is also survived by 2 brothers Jesse “James” Battle of Compton, Ca, Hermon Johnson Jr of Tucson, Az, (5) children Marcia Renee Dean “Calvin” of North Little Rock, AR, Ray C McCray of Dallas, TX, Velinda McCray of Dallas, TX, Tina McCray of Lancaster, TX, and Victor McCray of Garland, Tx, (26) Grand Children, (19) Great Grand Children, and (1) Great-Great Grand Child.
