Vahnita Delores Loud was born on November 11, 1948, to the proud parents of Bennie and Ida Vee Loud. An early product of the Dallas Independent School District, Vahnita attended Phillis Wheatley Elementary School and later James Madison High School. When the family relocated out of the Dallas District, Vahnita attended and graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School. She matriculated to El Centro Junior College before earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and English from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University) in Commerce, Texas. As a student at East Texas State University, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Her parents built a solid foundation of religious training, family togetherness and pride. They were committed to exposing her to as many new opportunities as possible. As part of her religious upbringing, she joined and participated in church activities beginning at an early age. This initial training carried over into her adult life where she was a faithful member of her childhood church, Warren United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She served as the Administrative Church Council Chair, Finance Chair, a member of United Women of Faith, a longtime Chancellor Choir member, Lay Servant/Speaker when duty called, and a Board Member of District Metro Buildings and Relocation Committee.
Vahnita had an illustrious professional career and served 33 years with Delta Airlines. She rose through the ranks and retired as a Supervisor and Communications Liaison in 2005. After retiring, Vahnita worked as a Customer Service Specialist for US Treasury Services for two years and as the Administrative Assistant for Hornbuckle Photography, LLC for four years.
As a proud member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Vahnita exemplified leadership in a professional manner and represented Iota to the best of her ability. She completed numerous hours of volunteer service throughout her 38-year tenure. Her leadership roles included serving locally as Chapter President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Dean of Intake; on the regional level, she served as Assistant Regional Director and on the national level, she served as Southwestern Regional Director. Vahnita always demonstrated leadership by example. In recognition of her superior leadership and service, she received the National Outstanding Regional Director Award in July 2021.
Vahnita met and fell in love with the love of her life, Jimmy Patterson. They enjoyed 18 wonderful years together.
Vahnita’s earthly journey ended when the Lord called her home on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Preceding her in death were her parents, Bennie and Ida Loud; sisters Georgia Bayson and Ruby Powell; and her aunt and uncle, Velemer and Lloyd White.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her longtime pardner/spouse, Jimmy Patterson; stepchildren, Evan and Alyssa Patterson, Baby G, granddaughter; sister, Juanda Wallace; aunt, Artis Wimberley; nieces, Denise Brown, Novita Samuels-Sanders, Arlicia Wallace and Janie Pickett, and Tamara Bayson; nephew, Christopher Samuel; grandnephew and grandniece, Dominic Thompson and Chyna Green; great grandniece and great grandnephew, Nevaeh Thompson & Kenedy Thompson; and a host of cousins and other beloved relatives and friends.
Vahnita Delores Loud was a blessing to many and she leaves a legacy of wisdom, kindness, loyalty, and love to her family, friends and Sorors.
