Velma Ruth Barrett, known as ( Vam, MaMa Vam or as Herb called her “A poor man’s Lucille Ball) was born in Kaufman, Texas on April 17, 1922. She went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2015 from a long illness. She is survived by loving children, Gail Barrett Roden and Husband Billy, Jacquelyn Barrett Sandoval and Charles Barrett, Grand Children, Kristyn Summerlin and Husband Larry and Robert Neilson and wife Piraon, Great Grand Children, Emma Ruth Summerlin, Allie Neilson and Aarin Neilson, and her sister Katie Lawton. She is preceded in Death by her loving Husband, Herb, and they were married over 60 years. Benjamin Sandoval, her grandson, Sisters, Bobbye Robichaux, Jewel Jones, Jacquelyn Rogers, Brothers George Shaw ,HP Shaw and parents Lola Shaw and Charles Shaw. She was a fun loving and caring person who always preached the Golden Rule. Vam had many friends and will be missed. Everyone loved her very much. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Richardson and was a former member of Wesley and Elmwood Methodist Churches. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation in Vam’s name. The family is deeply grateful for all the outpouring of love, prayers and support.
