Veltus Sharp

Veltus SHARP, was blessed to have spent 102 1/2 years on this planet. She left us on June 28, 2022 at 1:15 PM in the home of her daughter/caregiver Clytie Stephenson where she has been living for the past 5 yrs in DeSoto, TX. Both daughters Shirley Reid & Clytie Stephenson were at her bedside as she transitioned to her heavenly home.

She was born 12/20/1919 to Ira and Roxie Chancellor in Athens TX. She joined 2 sisters Lecie & Lillie. After her, 3 boys came Grady (Boy Blue), Williard & Neal. Followed later by little brother Ray Chancellor & little sister Patsy Chancellor.

Upon uniting with J.A. Houston mom gave birth to her first child Johnny Mack Houston (deceased)

Later she united in Holy Matrimony with A.L. Brookins, this union produced Shirley, Delbert "Spongy" (deceased) & Clytie. Later in life she married Bailey Sharp.

Both of her parents, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, husband and her 2 sons preceded her in demise.

Veltus was a very loyal, devoted loving member of Cedar Crest Cathedral CME for many years and had become "the Mother of the Church". She served under many pastors. She was a very active member of the Missionary Society & The Ladies Guild. Next to her family, her greatest love was raising her children just as she would nurture her African Violet flowers. Cooking was her favorite, she also loved hosting gatherings at her home for her sisters in Christ & friend's. She was known for her annual legendary easter egg hunts.

In order to take care of us mom went to work for a family of 7. Over a period of 42 years, she was very instrumental in raising 5 more children; Jay (deceased), Judy, Sara, Mary Lou (Sissy) & Jo Carr. The Carr kids are still very close to Mom, forever present in her life.

Veltus loving legacy includes daughters Shirley Reid (Alvin) & Clytie Stephenson. Grandchildren; Rhonda Jones (Rex), Lecia Medlock (Clifford) & Mindee Gibson. Great-grandchildren; Mistee Salter (Ken), April James, Kholbe James, Ravyn Robinson, Jordan Medlock, Kennedy Medlock, Miari Nealy & Myles Ned. Great-great-grandchildren; Nkhiyah Salter, Kenny Salter, Denym Banks, Kaidon Salter, Kylan Salter, Zoee James, Carmelo Overton, Kenlei Salter, Shiylo Overton & Lejend Bowman. Great-great-great-grandchild; Ky'aire Salter. Brother; Ray Chancellor, Sister; Patsy Sanders (Luke). The Carr Family - Judy, Sara, Sissy & Jo.

She also loved spending time with all her kids. She loved walking the aisles supposedly grocery shopping, traveling which she got to do quite a bit after retirement.

She had a beautiful life.
