parentage of Cubie Timmins and Ophelia Hearrod-Timmins. She
graduated from H.B. Pemberton High School in Marshall and
Phillips Business College in Dallas, Texas. She came to know Jesus
at an early age at Shady Grove CME Church, where she served as a
faithful member until joining up with Bullock Chapel CME Church
in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. James Larry. She
was an active Missionary and often played the piano for Sunday
services. She met and married Johnnie M. Smith of Dallas, Texas,
and to this union two children were born, Arnetta and Susan. Vera
was employed by the Dallas Housing Authority and later went on
to work for D.I.S.D. where she later retired.
Vera L. Timmins-Smith departed this life on Thursday, October 4,
2018, she was preceded in death by her parents, Cubie Timmins and
Ophelia Hearrod-Timmins; husband, Johnnie M. Smith; daughter,
Susan K. Smith-Hunt; two nephews, Nathan and Fred Wiggins; two
sisters, Verma Brantley and Erma Jean Lewis; and four brothers,
Otis Timmins, Lawrence Timmins, Cleophus Durden and Willie
Timmins.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Arnetta Allen;
granddaughters, Johnetta Shelton, TJ Mitchell-Davis (Roderick) and
Artina Allen, all of Dallas, TX; three grandsons, Keith Mitchell,
Duran Hargest III and Jeremy Davis, all of Dallas, TX; fifteen
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild all of Dallas,
Texas; three sisters, Josephine Wiggins (Leon) of Los Angeles, CA,
Marilyn Benavides of Dallas, TX, Joann Fagget of Marshall, TX;
four brothers, Zephaniah Timmins (Glenda), Arthur Lee Timmins
(Audrey) all of Marshall, TX and Jasper Timmins (Pauline) of
Dallas, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives and
friends; two play sisters, Inader Dobbin and Tina Dallas both of
Dallas, TX and special friends, Minister Josey McGee and Pastor
Carrie Renner all Dallas, TX. She will truly be missed.
