

Verna Bernice Powell, age 98, of Dallas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 2, 2021, with her son by her side. Born on March 27, 1922 in Montrose, Colorado was the daughter of the late George and Mable Freeman. Bernice, as she was known spent 40+ years working as an accountant for the Beckett Corporation. Her next chapter in life would be her favorite. Spending countless hours with her family. She was affectionately known as Aunt, Grandma and Nanny. Her smile could light up the room, especially when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were by her side. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her mom and dad, George and Mable Freeman, her beloved husband Fred M. Powell, son Robert Clyde Powell, grandson Michael David Powell, granddaughter Rebecca Alday, and sibling Robert Freeman and his wife Wanda. Survivors include her son Michael Edgar Powell of Olney, cherished family members Karen Darlene Geter of Lewisville, John Alday of Bartonville, Granddaughter Carrie Shaffer and husband Brent of Weston, CT, Grandson Steven Anthony Geter of Lewisville, Robert D. Powell, Great Grandchildren, Karen Lee and husband Chris of Lewisville, Johnny Alday and fiancée Erica Nelson of Vista, CA, Chelsey Derksen and husband Daniel of San Antonio, Dakota Powell, Lily and Emme Geter and John Walter Shaffer, three great-great grandchildren Hayden, Charlie and Gracie, nephews Kirk, Todd and Scott, niece, Jody.
Due to the current circumstances affecting social gatherings at this time, funeral services and burial at Sparkman-Hillcrest, Dallas will be held on March 1, 2021 privately for the immediate family and close friends.
