Vinace Wayne Herring was born in Jones County, Texas on October 14, 1939 to William and Mary Herring. Wayne was a proud member of Future Farmers and shared many stories about showing his cows at the State Fair of Texas. He graduated from Garland High School in 1957 and began his career at Lone Star Gas/Enserch, where he worked for 40 years until his retirement. Wayne is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 44 years; his daughter Sandra Henderson and her husband Brent; and his two grandchildren, Ben and Sara Henderson. He is predeceased by his son, Daniel Mistrot.
Wayne was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He volunteered his time chaperoning Lake Highlands High School band events and football games, enjoyed family vacations to South Padre Island, San Antonio, and Colorado, and loved being “Poppy” to his grandkids. His family has many happy memories of him eating corndogs and looking through the animal barns at the State Fair, working tirelessly in his yard, and visiting with his neighbors (and anyone else who happened to walk by). Wayne had friends at Target, Kroger, Sewell Infiniti, El Fenix, Rooster Hardware, the bank, the post office...he never met a stranger and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Wayne will be especially missed by his loving family, of whom he was so very proud.
