Virginia Lee Barrett, 93, passed away on May 18, 2026. Born on July 27, 1932, Ginger was the daughter of Alvie O. Lewis and Gertrude Lewis and was raised in Sunnyvale, Texas. Ginger resided in Garland, Texas.
Throughout her life, Ginger worked with steady dedication and quiet pride—first as a seamstress, later as a lunch lady at Sunnyvale Elementary, and also as a secretary at Ford Miller.
In 1950, Ginger married Cecil Ernest Barrett, and they shared 47 years of marriage and had three children. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil “Emie” Barrett; son-in-law, Ronnie McCleary; parents, Alvie Lewis and Gertrude Mathis; brothers, Lester, James, WJ, John, Alvis, and Lewis; grandson, Keith Baxter; and sisters, Winnie Duckworth and Maxine Irvin.
Ginger is survived by her son, Rick Barrett and wife Donna; daughter, Sandra “Sandy” McCleary; son, Greg Barrett and wife Gail; sister, JoNel Manley; grandchildren, Jennifer McCleary, Becky and Paul Thompson, and Brittany and Jason Cathey; great-grandchildren, Shaun McCleary, Hailey and Joey Costello, Keeley Thompson, Jayden and Kaitlyn Thompson, Betty Baxter, Victoria Baxter, Bailey Baxter, Obie Turner, and Claudia Joy Turner; great-great-grandchildren, Dallon Cooper, Bella McCleary, Zane Ramirez, Ashton Costello, and Sadie Costello; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends she considered her own.
A loving Christian woman, Ginger lived her faith in the everyday ways that mattered most—through kindness freely given, a caring presence, and a sweetness that made others feel welcome and safe. She was, to many, a second “mom,” offering comfort, encouragement, and a steady heart when it was needed most.
Ginger found joy in the simple, meaningful pleasures of life: crocheting, playing Chicken Foot dominoes, baking, listening to music, and—most of all—being with family. She also faithfully followed the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, enjoying the shared excitement that came with every season.
