Virginia was born on May 10, 1926 in Dallas Texas. From age 5 she lived in Irving TX where she attended school from the first grade through High School. Shortly after graduating from High School, she entered the work force and worked for 43 years, 35 of which were with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company from which she retired at age 60.
On December 1, 1945 Virginia married her first love, Jesse Garland Bond, shortly after his discharge from the U.S. Air Force. They shared a love for travel and made many trips to the Western states. They lived in Lancaster TX and had been married 44 years when Garland passed away from Leukemia.
On June 3, 1993, Virginia married Cyrus Robert (Bob) Durbin a widower who lived down the street from her in Lancaster. They also shared a love for traveling and visited all but three of the 50 states, plus Canada and Alaska. Bob died in 2000 from Lung Cancer.
After that Virginia spent much of her time involved in the local community activities such as volunteering for the Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library, serving on the Library Advisory Board for 8 years and driving her older friends to Doctor’s appointments. She attended the Churches of God since 1990. She was 70 years old when she was baptized in the Gulf of Mexico in Destin Florida.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bertha Harvey and her brother-in-law Kyle Butler. She is survived by her sister Betty Butler, her brother William (Bill) Harvey and wife Frances; step-son Jerry Mitchell and wife Becky; several nieces and nephews and three step-grandsons
