

Virginia Scarborough, pioneering businesswoman, mother of seven, devoted wife, and the woman who "caused all this," passed away August 12, 2014. Born in 1928, she was the daughter of Emma Sloan and AP Roberts, who claimed 360 acres near Wetumka, OK in the land rush of 1889. She attended the one-room Wetumka schoolhouse, where her sisters served as teacher and principal, but left home at 16 for business school in Oklahoma City. She opened and managed several stores for Pan-American Wallpaper & Paint Co. by age 20. In 1949, she met her husband of 64 years at one such store. The following weekend she agreed to marry him. The couple moved to Dallas in 1955, where they raised 7 children and attended Casa View Baptist Church, a place they felt called to serve. In 1978, she founded Scarborough Originals. “Gam” leaves behind an immense legacy of love. She is survived by her husband John L. Scarborough, sons Danny (wife Kathy), Colby (wife Marsha), Trent (wife Mary), David, and daughters Jacque (husband Stephen Cooper) and Mary (husband Dr. Larry Nickell); 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son John L. Scarborough, Jr. The family will receive friends, Friday, August 15, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held, 11:00 AM, Saturday, Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home Chapel.
