Virginia Josephine Young Stevenson, “Ginna,” passed away peacefully in her home on February 27th, 2012. Ginna was born in Manila, Philippines on June 2nd, 1939 to Carlos and Mary Young. Thankfully, Ginna, her parents, and sister, Connie M. Young survived the occupation of the Philippines during World War II and were able to re-establish their lives in Atlanta, Georgia in 1946. They then moved to Dallas, Texas in 1953. Ginna attended elementary and middle school at St. Cecilia’s and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1958. Her education at Ursuline inspired life-long friendships, a special devotion to the Catholic Church, and a deep commitment to Ursuline’s tradition of Serviam. Upon graduating from Ursuline, Ginna attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Tulsa, Oklahoma and became a nurse. As a young nurse, she met Stanley Stevenson, a physician who was treating her grandmother in Dallas. They married in 1964, and their union produced three children: Charles Andrew Stevenson, Mark Lee Stevenson, and Lisa Christine Stevenson. Unfortunately, Ginna lost Stan in 1979, and she worked tirelessly thereafter as a single mother to support her family. Throughout Ginna’s life, personally and professionally, her gentle, caring spirit was a precious gift. She was a dedicated nurse, a giving friend, and a loving mother. Her love and her kindness will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
Ginna is survived by her sister, Connie Young, her sons Mark and Charles Stevenson, and her daughter Lisa Stevenson, all of Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to any of the following organizations: Operation Kindness 3201 Earhart Dr. Carrollton, TX, 75006; Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund 353 S. Sappington Rd. St. Louis, MO, 63122; American Kidney Fund 2223 S. Buckner Blvd. Dallas, TX, 75227.
