Born on August 10, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas, to Calvin and Minnie Pearl (Hull) Turney, Vivian’s family later moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, and then to Missouri following the passing of her father. She remained there until graduating from Pierce City High School in 1947.
Over the course of her 96 years, Vivian lived in Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Tampa Bay, Florida; and Dallas, Texas, before settling in Garland, Texas, where she made her home for 46 years.
Vivian retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1984 at the age of 55. She was always grateful for the opportunity to work there and took great pride in a job she thoroughly enjoyed. After retirement, she continued working part-time, including positions at Mervyn’s and TGI Friday’s, and later assisted her nephew, Mark, with selling Christmas trees.
Vivian volunteered as a Coordinator for the Garland Police Department Neighborhood Crime, was active with her homeowners association and volunteered as a poll worker during elections. Vivian also enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, and sitting in the sun. Her marshmallow chocolate cake, cookies, and fudge were especially well known and loved within the family.
Vivian was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie, J.C., Carl, and Bud Turney, and by her sister, Betty Gallaher. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Gallaher; her son, Gary Littlepage, and daughter-in-law, Virginia; her grandson, Chad Littlepage; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
