Wanda Lee Humphrey, age 70, lost her seven year battle with ovarian cancer on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born August 3, 1948, in Wickes, Arkansas, and grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Wanda was so thankful for the time she spent with Grady and Carolyn Burrows and their daughter, Linda, who she called her sister. After living in Hawaii and Arizona, Wanda made her lifelong home in Dallas, Texas. Wanda was a Regional Sales Executive for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas, where she retired in 2004 after a 30 year successful career. She absolutely loved her job with Blue Cross and adored all of the wonderful people she worked with throughout her career.
Wanda never gave up her battle with ovarian cancer, her body did. She loved her team at UTSW Medical Center. She was so fortunate to have experienced the high level of medical care and love from this team. A special Thank You to Dr. Karen Bradshaw and Dr. Siobhan Kehoe and her staff who walked every step of the way with Wanda. Keep up your fight to save women!
Wanda was lovingly cared for by the incredible staff at Compassus Hospice and the wonderful staff at Manchester’s Queensferry Home. This amazing group of caregivers surely were handpicked by God to so tenderly care for Wanda until the end. She dearly loved each of them and they loved her. A special Thank You to Kara Miller, RN, Lucretia Lara, Nikki Tepecik, Dr. Kelly Newcomer and all of the wonderful staff at Queensferry Home who saw Wanda through to the end with love and dignity.
There truly are no words that would adequately capture the beauty and essence of who Wanda was. Wanda loved the Lord and she loved to laugh. You could always find Wanda ministering to someone in the Chemo Lab, the waiting room or the grocery store. She battled her cancer with surgery, round after round of chemotherapy, all the while eating hamburgers and joking with her nurses. Wanda was truly a saint and will be remembered for her grace, kindness and loving heart.
Wanda is survived by her Sisters in Christ (and their spouses who adored Wanda) Linda Sizemore (Gary), Mickey Ward (Bill), Kathi Schmidt (Jay-deceased), Lori Elsey (Chuck), Sandy Dulaney (Bruce), Carolyn Hull (Steve), Robin Abellera and whole community of wonderful friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 2:00pm, Faith Chapel, Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano Campus. Reception to follow. There will be a private entombment.
Memorials in Wanda’s honor may be made to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Gynecology Oncology Department or Prestonwood Baptist Church.
