Wayland Robinson

James Wayland Robinson, known to family and friends as Wayland, passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on July 28, 1937, in Durant, Oklahoma, where he was raised and lived until moving to Dallas in 1968.

Wayland married the love of his life, Sue, on June 4, 1956. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life centered around family and friendships. Sue passed away in 2016, and her memory remained an important part of Wayland’s life in the years that followed.

Wayland built a long and successful career in the flexible packaging industry, beginning with Dixico and later joining Bryce Corporation. A gifted salesman, Wayland’s success came not only from his professional abilities but also from his genuine interest in people. He had a special gift for connecting with customers, and over the course of his career, many of his clients became lifelong friends.

Wayland loved meeting people and had a remarkable way of making everyone around him feel welcome, valued, and loved. He gave the very best hugs and always had a good story to share, a smile to offer, or an encouraging word when it was needed. Golf was one of his great passions, made even more special because it was something he and Sue enjoyed together. They traveled throughout the United States, playing many memorable courses and creating wonderful memories. Wayland approached life with a sense of optimism. His warmth, enthusiasm, and positive spirit were part of who he was, and they left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He treasured his family and loved spending time with the people closest to him, often gathered around the table enjoying a cocktail, a good meal, and the company of family and friends.

Wayland is survived by his three children: daughter Vickie; son Bill and his wife, Lisa; and son Jeff and his wife, Paula; his sisters, Norma and Shirley; and his brother, Benny. He was preceded in death by his brother Don. He was a proud grandfather to Jerimy and his wife, Leslie; Colby; Taylor and his wife, Avery; Blake and his wife, Aimee; and Jerod and his wife, Amy. He also took great joy in his six great-grandchildren: Tegan, son of Colby; Carter and Ethan, sons of Blake and Aimee; and Allie, Landon, and Kate, children of Jerod and Amy. Wayland was especially delighted to know that his family would soon grow again, as Taylor and Avery are expecting a baby girl in December. A beloved and favorite uncle, Wayland also held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews.

Wayland leaves behind a life rich in love, family, friendship, laughter, and wonderful memories. He will be deeply missed, but the warmth, love, and positivity with which he lived his life will remain with all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, A Memorial Service will take place at 2:30 pm with Reception to follow on Sunday, August 30, 2026 all at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225
