Weldon Glenn Hope was born on November 15, 1929 in Clarksville, Texas, to Andrew and Vida Hope. He graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Doris Marie Diggs, on September 2, 1949. Together they raised two children, Stephen Glenn and Susan Dianne. Weldon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully at his home in Alba, Texas, on August 3, 2026, at the age of 96.
Weldon began working as a carpenter alongside his father at an early age. In 1955, he went to work for Kroger Food Stores, where he built a successful career and eventually became a Construction Supervisor. He dedicated 38 years to Kroger before retiring in 1993. During retirement Weldon enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and faithfully cheering on the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
Weldon is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his son Stephen; and five siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Jistel and husband Joe; daughter-in-law Ann Hope; grandchildren Rob Hope and wife Stacy, Phillip Hope and wife Michelle, Brandi Bray and husband Chad, Brent Jistel and wife Mindy; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren, with one more expected in October; sisters Myrtle and Joyce; and brother Douglas.
Weldon will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his quick wit and sense of humor, and the love he had for his family. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering devotion that will be treasured for generations.
