June 1, 1919 – January 2, 2015
Willard Schultz passed away peacefully Friday, January 2, 2015 at age 95. A lifelong Dallas resident, he was married for 72 years to the love of his life, Marguerite Cassata Schultz, who preceded him in death, February 2014.
Willard was known for his positive attitude. On any day he would say, “it’s all about your attitude.” His attitude, and most importantly his faith in God, was the driving force of his life. His daily commitment to prayer was the core of his being. He could never understand why anyone would worry because it was useless….God was in control. A member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Willard was eager to volunteer in any capacity at any time. Later in life he and his wife attended St. Jude Chapel in downtown Dallas because of accessibility and felt welcomed and loved by all the members of that community.
Willard was part of the greatest generation ever….enduring the economic hardships of the depression and World War II, where he was assigned to the Army Air Corps (today known as the Air Force). For two years, Willard was in England as chief clerk in the adjutant section, handling correspondence and administrative matters for the commanding officer and the adjutant counter intelligence. His love of God and country were at the heart of his being.
Willard was the second child of Georgia Bessie Cass and William Otto Schultz. However, it was the Cassata family, his wife’s family that he truly loved and cherished with the utmost respect and admiration.
Commitment was a significant part of Willard’s life and was demonstrated through his career with the Texas & Pacific Railroad, today known as Union Pacific. As a dedicated employee, Willard retired after 42 years as Regional Manager Public Relations. He never considered for a minute what the company would do for him, but how he could consistently better himself to do a great job.
Willard was very proud of his children, grandchildren and after his wife’s death said, “what have I done to deserve these blessings?” A blessing to Willard and his family were three caregivers who cared for “Mr. Willard” as if he were their father - Jennifer Buenaventura, Maryann Erni, and Malyn Catral. The family is deeply grateful for their love and support.
