

William Mays Acker was born in Richmond, Virginia, on April 14, 1935, to Mary Wilder and Joseph Morris Acker. Bill went to his heavenly home on June 19, 2026. He was a member of Northwest Bible Church in Dallas and a member of the Berean class.
Bill graduated from Beaumont High School in Beaumont, Texas, in 1953 and attended college at The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company in California, followed by 32 years at Texas Instruments Incorporated in the Defense Systems and Electronics Group. In retirement, Bill was a math tutor to high school students teaching algebra, trigonometry, geometry and calculus.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Bill had a passion for building things in his workshop working with wood, metal welding, electrical wiring and electronics to build everything from elaborate model train sets to solar heating systems.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marcia, Bill is survived by his children Leigh Chandler and Paul Acker, son-in-law George Chandler, daughter-in-law Rachelle Acker and grandchildren Elizabeth, George and Katherine Chandler and John and Aubrey Acker.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on July 11, 2026, at Ventana by Buckner followed by a reception in the Grand Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Bill’s name to Ventana by Buckner at https://www.buckner.org/donatenow/ in support of Buckner’s redemptive ministry to transform and restore the most vulnerable, from the beginning to the ending of life.
