If love could hold death at bay, Harvey would be with us still, but it is with heavy hearts that the family announces his passing on May 13, 2012 in Irving, Texas. Harvey was born January 22, 1947 when Dallas had open fields and children captured lightening bugs in glass jars. Known as Bill in his youth, he sang in Arthur Smith’s Boys’ Choir at Christ the King grade school, where he was an Eagle Scout. He played football at Jesuit College Preparatory School and graduated in 1965 as a National Merit semifinalist. He attended Southern Methodist University and pledged Delta Chi fraternity. A career with Braniff, Marriott and LSG Skychefs led him to the east and west coasts and to foreign lands. Always congenial, he made countless friends and was often found with them on the local golf course.
Vigil Service and visitation will be at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Norris and Kurt Mullick.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Harvey S. Allen and by his grandparents, Alice and Edward Belvin, Sr.
He is beloved by his sister Lou Light (Russell) of Fort Worth, brother J. David Allen (Ellen) of Richardson, nieces Erin Light of Fort Worth and Angela Allen of Austin; and nephews Brendan Light, Justin Light and Jeff Allen of Dallas. He is also survived by his cousins and their families: Don and Doug Belvin, Karen Wardell, and Lynn Ransier.
