William Leonard Brown Jr., age 73, passed away on October 12, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on February 25, 1953 in Dallas, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard & Joann Brown. Bill was raised in Mesquite, Texas. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He married Celia Green in 1975, and the couple had twins, Terry Lynn and Keri Ann. He was a machine operator, where he worked for more than 35 years.
He is preceded in death by his father William Leonard Brown Sr. of Russellville, Alabama and his mother Joann Brown of Russellville, Alabama.
Bill and Celia enjoyed lighthouses, even driving to the Carolinas for a lighthouse tour. Later in life he developed a new hobby of woodburning. He loved making gifts. He gave his woodburning pictures to anyone who wanted one. After his brain surgery, it became therapy his oncology team encouraged. He loved driving and seeing the country. The family went on good ole driving vacations. He would record tapes of movies for entertainment. They visited places like Disney World, Washington DC, New York City, and even Canada to see Niagara Falls.
His family and friends will always remember him as a man who worked long hours to provide for his family. Bill was a fighter. He was diagnosed in 2021 with glioblastoma, a non-curable form of brain cancer. He had a golf ball size tumor removed that year. It required removing the right front quarter of his brain.
He was proud of his children. He would watch tv shows he normally would not watch just to see his son’s name scroll by. He loved telling people about all the places Terry traveled to and the neat gifts he brought him. He bragged equally about Keri, especially about her sobriety and completing a half marathon. He loved them very much. Their love of sports came from him; taking them to live games of all kinds from an early age.
He loved going to the farm in Alabama and spending time with Uncle Dick just “piddling” around.
He recently joined Living Faith Lutheran Church in Midlothian, Texas. He was a “friend of Bill & Lois W.” He loved God, his wife, children, family, dogs, and grand dogs. He will be missed, but we rest in the comfort that his fight is over and God is saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Celia. His children Terry Brown of Los Angeles, California and Keri Spooner (Paul) of Mesquite, Texas. His favorite uncle James Brown of Russellville, Alabama, brothers Wayne (Jackie) of Russellville, Alabama, John
(Amy) of Athens, Alabama, and Joey (Lisa) of St. Augustine, Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews, in laws and other family and friends throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama.
Visitation will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228, US, on October 19, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please donate to glioblastoma cancer research.
