William "Bill" Ivy Cox of Ovilla, Texas passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on April 5, 2016. William was born on October 1, 1937 in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Virginia “Jeanne” Cox just 12 weeks prior, his son, William Todd Cox, parents Edwin Ivy Cox and Lucille Cox Hesson. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Armstrong of Cedar Hill and Kristi McEwin of Rogers, Arkansas, and two sons-in law, Paul Armstrong and Jeff McEwin. He is also survived by grandchildren who loved their “Papa” very much, Paul David Armstrong II, Kasey Armstrong, Willie Cox, Jeffrey McEwin, Nicholas McEwin, Matthew McEwin and five great grandchildren Cailee Armstrong (aka “Catfish,” Chloe Armstrong, Caleb Armstrong, Araina Armstrong and Jesse Hensley. William grew up in Dallas and attended Adamson High School. He served in three branches of the military, Army, Air Force and Navy. The Navy is where he expanded his knowledge of mechanics and specialized in aircraft. William worked for Braniff through both bankruptcies as an A&P mechanic, supervisor, inspector and planner. Finishing his career at Southwest Airlines in maintenance planning in 2009 is where he was truly happy.
He was a Master Mason and member of the James V. Callan Lodge and an avid stock car racer and driver. Along with attending his grandchildren’s sports events and sitting around the table with friends and family, William truly loved classic cars and always had a project in progress.
Services will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home and Cemetery 6000 South RL Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior.
