William Norman Janes

After graduating from W. W. Samuell High School and attending Texas A&M University, Bill volunteered to join the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and served two tours of duty for his country in Vietnam where he earned the rank of Captain. Bill believed that there is a special bond between comrades in arms forged in combat. Captain Janes considered these comrades his brothers; and he loved them and they loved him. Bill was passionate about staying in touch with his Army brothers and created the 191st Assault Helicopter Company (AHC) Association so that military members could reconnect and stay connected with each other. He always looked forward to attending the many 191st AHC reunions and organized the September 2025 event, even though he was unable to attend. Bill was a very skilled and talented computer software engineer and worked for many years as a Microsoft-certified software engineer.

For many years, Bill was also actively involved and helped manage the North Texas Salvation Army Angel Tree program which provides Christmas gifts from generous donors for thousands of children, seniors, and adults with special needs each year. Bill loved writing poetry and contributed his work to The International War Veterans' Poetry Archives, including his poem entitled "A Tribute to Valor." He was also a member of the Pleasant Mound United Methodist Church. His legacy is one of service, love of his family and friends, and especially his love and dedication to his veteran brothers. He will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service for William will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
