William E Livingstone III

William Edwin Livingstone, III went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026, due to complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. At 91 years of age, Bill lived a long and productive life. While his family will miss his constant presence, we are comforted that he is truly home now, no longer suffering and most importantly, in Jesus’ loving embrace. Bill was born May 22, 1935 in Ft. Worth, Texas to parents William E. Livingstone, Jr. and Margaret Hall Livingstone. During his early years the family lived in Dallas prior to moving to Wichita Falls, where Bill attended high school. He was a standout athlete there, playing football for the legendary Joe Golding in the early 50s. He earned All-District honors and was captain during his senior season, leading the Coyotes to the state playoff finals. Bill was subsequently recruited by many colleges to play football, but decided to return to Dallas to play at SMU, where he was selected as Co-Captain of the Mustangs in 1956, his senior year. Following that season, he was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals pro football team, but chose instead to pursue his law degree at SMU, after graduating with his BBA in 1957. Bill loved his years at SMU, and while attending law school, he met the love of his life, Janice Ann Crow of Shreveport. After her graduation in 1958, they married and were devoted to one another for 65 years, until Janice’s passing in 2024. Bill also served his country as a JAG officer in the Texas Air National Guard during the early years of his marriage.

He and Janice raised their three children (Bill IV, Carol and Scott) in Dallas, settling in Lake Highlands in 1978. They were also blessed over the years with 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. SMU was always a very special place for both Bill and Janice. It was where they met, joined Highland Park United Methodist Church and stayed active in support of the university and it’s many activities, including Bill’s service as a former president of the Mustang Club.

Bill joined the firm of Phinney, Hallman & Pulley in 1960 after graduation from law school. He became a partner and was with the firm for 12 years before being named General Counsel at Dallas Federal Savings & Loan in the early 70s. He worked briefly in the 80s for Jackson Walker as Of Counsel, before starting his own private practice, working with financial institutions and specializing in real estate and environmental law. Bill reluctantly made the decision to retire in January 2020, after practicing law for almost 60 years.

Throughout life, Bill had a deep love for athletic competition and channeled that interest into coaching youth sports. Beginning with YMCA and Pop Warner football, basketball and baseball teams, this eventually led him to a long time association with Boys Baseball, Inc., where he served on the board and coached many select teams to tournament appearances and championships. Bill used the vehicle of team sports as an opportunity to teach life lessons to his many young players, helping mold them by stressing the importance of teamwork, dedication, integrity and hard work, in order to prepare them for life’s future challenges. Coaching youth baseball was pure joy for Bill, which he also viewed as part of his civic duty. His guidance, direction and active involvement, as well as emotional support, was also instrumental in helping his youngest son pursue a career in baseball, playing first in the collegiate ranks, and ultimately as an MLB player.

In his golden years, Bill continued to devote his interests to his family’s needs, supporting them in every way and whenever called upon.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, and his sister Annellon Livingstone Fitzgerald. He is survived by his children: William E. Livingstone, IV (Denise); Carol Livingstone Salaiz (Eddie); Scott L. Livingstone (Emily); grandchildren: William Scott Livingstone (Amanda); Molly Livingstone; Allyson Livingstone Kurak (Kyle); Sarah Grace Salaiz, as well as four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church (Cox Chapel) on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 3:00 pm.
