

Bill was a true Southern gentleman. Born in Kinston, NC on August 17, 1923 into a large Jewish family, he was the youngest and only boy of nine children. He grew up in Durham, NC, attended the Georgia Military Academy, graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill, and served as Lieutenant J.G. in the US Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Bill married the love of his life, Elya, in 1949. They moved to Dallas in the early 1950s to open two Rayco Auto Seat Covers franchises. He ran those stores, which later became Carco, until the early 1980s. Bill and Elya, along with their friends and business partners, the Saginaws, started the Brake-O chain with franchise locations throughout Texas and the Southeast. Lon time members of Temple Emanu-El in Dallas, Bill and Elya have been active in numerous organizations.
In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Elya, Bill is survived by four children and three of their spouses: Jan Naxon, Elise Cary Leibs (Louis), Adam Naxon (Ella), Seth Naxon (Kim), as well as seven grandchildren: David, Will, Olivia, Gabrielle, Leah and Sophie Naxon and Devin Leibs.
A service will be held at Temple Emanu-El Dallas in the Lefkowitz Chapel at 10 am on Friday, June 29. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. On line condolences can be sent by going to www.sparkman-hillcrest.com
