
William H. Philp, Jr. died November 2, 2015 at 92 years of age. Born in Dallas, TX on August 23, 1923 the son of William H. and Louise E. Philp he was a 5th generation Texan. Bill graduated from Boerne High School in 1940. He was the president of his high school class and an Eagle Scout. He entered Texas A&M University September, 1940 and enlisted in the US Army January, 1943. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. and volunteered for airborne training. He served in the Pacific Theatre as a Platoon Leader in the first Allied troops to enter Japan three days before the official armistice was signed on September 2, 1945.
He returned to Texas and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M in 1947. Bill worked for The Dallas Morning News and for The Doctor Pepper Company as a Zone Sales Manager. He was very active in the Texas National Guard and was a Lt. Colonel in the 49th Armored Division when it was activated for Federal duty during the Berlin crisis 1961-1962. He returned to Dallas and worked in the sales department of Huey and Philp Wholesale Hardware, at that time the oldest incorporated business in Dallas.
He resided at Signature Pointe Retirement Community for the last 13 years where he developed a very significant talent for writing poetry and thoughtful sayings. He was much in demand to present his imitation of Will Rogers. He was loved by the residents and staff of Signature Pointe and will be greatly missed.
Bill was a patriot and a staunch Texas Aggie. He is survived by his brother, Peter L. Philp, nieces, Deborah Edomm and Catherine Philp, and nephews, Paul, Patrick and Peter Philp II, great nieces Nicole and Jennifer Philp, and great nephews Ryan and Jake Hughes, and Peter Philp III.
A Memorial Mass for Mr. Philp will be said by Rev. Msgr. Donald F. Zimmerman at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10am, Monday, November 9, 2015. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, or your favorite charity.
