William Samuel Rose, aka “Billy” Rose was born on June 6, 1919, in Yoakum, Tx. to Lillie and Victor Rosenwasser. He had one younger brother, Charles “Chibby” Rose, who preceded him in death. Billy attended the University of Texas at Austin, and served his country in the United States Army. He passed away peacefully on August 31, 2010. His successful professional life was spent entirely with Glazer Wholesale Drug Company, a wholesale liquor distribution company. After many years of working “on the road” and extensively traveling for the company, he eventually became an executive in their Dallas, Tx. central offices, where he worked until his retirement. Billy’s remarkable survival of 2.5 pounds in 1919 foretold his even more remarkable survival of many monumental medical challenges later in his life. His tenacity and will to live were profound, and he is a man who never swayed from his life’s guiding principles. He immensely enjoyed both the telling and receiving of a good joke, and he was especially adept at storytelling, embellished with a variety of ethnic accents. Billy is survived by his sister-in-law, Bertha Rose, nieces Janice Spiritas and Vicki Rose, nephew Barry Rose and other family. The family would like to acknowledge the loyalty of Wanda Turner for the care, concern and love she provided Billy over the last five years. In addition, during his last few months, the care he received from Myesia Merchant made him feel loved and brought great joy to him daily. A special thank you goes to Nene, Miss Linda, Granny and the entire staff of Presbyterian Village North. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
