Bill was born on August 6, 1951 to Myrtis E. Slatten in Alexandria, Louisiana and attended Boyde High School in Boyde, Louisiana.
After school, he joined the Army followed by the United States Marine Corps where he was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal for his sacrifice during his tour in Vietnam. After returning, he began his life as a professional over the road truck driver, working for multiple trucking companies throughout the years. Bill was also awarded many certificates for millions of miles for safe driving.
Bill wed his wife Sharon Smith in December 1984 and they raised their family in Grapevine, Texas where they had resided to this day.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Sharon Slatten, his sister Patsy Beckley and brother Frederick M. Slatten. He is survived by his two sons Adam Van Horn and Will Slatten; adopted son Mike Karl; beloved dog Daisy; Sister Nancy (John) Wells of West Monroe, LA as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and family members.
