Bill is survived by his daughters, Martha and Jane Anne; brother, Gene and wife Robye; sister-in-law, Irene Spalding; cousin, Sally Kennedy; several dear nieces and nephews; his special “adopted” daughters and many great neighbors and friends whose children regarded him as their “adopted grandfather”, and lastly his beloved grand dogs. He was an Army master sergeant in the MARS Task Force during World War II, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. After his service, he worked for JC Penney Co., starting as a stock boy in Mayfield, KY and moving to various stores in KY, TN and Columbia, SC before retiring as a fashion buyer in Dallas after a 42-year career. After retiring, Bill and Nita had the opportunity to travel the world with friends and family, and they enjoyed many happy years before Nita’s death in 1999. Bill was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church since 1962 and served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. His family would like to thank his doctors, especially Dorothy Sherwood and Andrew Pelphrey for the care they provided him. And they send a special thanks to all the caregivers who helped him tremendously in the final years-Heavenly Angels Personal Care, Avalon Residential Care Homes, and Vitas Hospice. Bill was a kind, generous man, who was always willing to go that extra step to help people, and his caregivers did the same. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends, Friday, August 10, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. A rosary will begin at 7:00 PM.
