Willie Mae Barnes entered into Eternity during the early evening of August 4, 2018 after a short illness. She was reunited in heaven with her children, Wanda Moss and Cecil B. Franklin, her parents and grandparents.
Willie Mae was the oldest child of Will and Eva Barnes and was born in Cherokee County Texas on April 4, 1921. Willie Mae was a brilliant and vivacious youngster and was taught from an early age the values of hard work, education and entrepreneurship. After graduating high school she was urged by her mother to learn a trade and go to college. After earning a beauty license, she entered and graduated from Texas College with a bachelor’s degree in education. Shortly after that she moved to Dallas, Texas and persued a career as a Speech Pathologist with the Dallas Independent School District. Simultaneously, Mae, as she was called by her many friends and colleagues, acquired real estate and opened 3 beauty shops. Her crown jewel was the Penthouse of Hair Design where her stylists and wig creations were highly sought after. Admirably, in middle age she returned to Prairie View University and earned her Master’s in Education.
Mae professed her faith in Jesus Christ in 2017 with the New Beginnings Covenant Ministries Church.
Mama Mae is survived by her Son; Edwin Roscoe Williams and his children, Keyven Lewis & wife Phredra, Daryl Griffith, Razurie Williams, Mesha Williams and Phonicia Hudson, Wanda’s children; Dana Henderson & husband Miles Henderson, Renee Carter, Howard Carter & wife Shirley and Cecil’s children; Stacy, Magela and Beshar. She leaves behind many grandchildren including Jacob, Lance, Diana, Tina, Athena, Christina, Justin, Patreecia, Howard Jr., Janice, Keyven Jr. and a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Peggy M. Barnes, half-sister Dora Barnes Sessions and her dear companion Allen Green.
