At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Willie was a member of the New Zion Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Pastor Rayford Terrell. He served as a Deacon and was a member of the Male Chorus.
Willie was a 1970 graduate of James Madison High School. He also attended and graduated from Jarvis Christian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1976.
In 1977, he married the love of his life, Betty Jewel Anderson and together they reared one son, Charles Ray Derrough.
He was employed with DISD for a short period of time before working for AT&T (formerly Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.). Willie retired after more than 32 years of dedicated service on December 30, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Leo Derrough and Johnnie Foreman; and son Charles Ray Derrough.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: wife, Betty Derrough; son, Steven McKanney; two sisters; Marilyn D. Foreman “Niece”; Pamela Foreman Lee (Jerome); brother-in-law, Gilbert Sanders; two uncles, U. S. Eldridge Sr. and Sammie Lee Eldridge; two grandchildren, Asia S. Derrough and Aniya McKanney; one great granddaughter, Aaliyah L. J. James; two nieces, Carlethia D. McGary and Porchea Sanders; one nephew, Twan McGary (Deanna); two great-nephews, Davion Sanders and Majeur A. McGary; three goddaughters: Kimtesha, Lawren and Kennedy Strange and a host of loving relatives and friends.
