

Wilma Jean (Strassle) Maddox, known to family as “Meme” passed away on November 9, 2025, at her home in Joshua, Texas. She was born November 28, 1935, in Bigelow, Arkansas to her parents Charles Strassle and Mary Elizabeth (Nagel) Strassle. A native of Arkansas, Wilma attended Bigelow High School. After high school she moved to Dallas, Texas where she found employment at Sears and Roebuck. Here she met her husband of 63 years, Harry C. Maddox. She later retired from work as an insurance underwriter for Cigna Insurance Company.
Wilma was committed to her Catholic faith where she attended church, with her family, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Dallas Texas. After retirement she attended Saint Phillips Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. Later she and her husband moved to Mesquite, Texas where she attended Divine Mercy of our Lord Catholic Church.
In school she enjoyed playing basketball. Her love of sports was passed on to her children. She coached girls’ basketball for St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School. Her daughters have fond memories of playing on the team (Angels). She introduced her sons to organized sports at an early age where they later excelled in high school sports.
Wilma enjoyed singing and dancing. The children have fond memories of her playing the fiddle with her dad. She also played guitar in a band with her husband. They volunteered their time playing for church dances. She was also a volunteer librarian for St. Augustine Catholic School for more than 8 years.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Harry C Maddox, Sr., her parents Charles Strassle and Mary Elizabeth Strassle, her siblings Josephine Kristofik, Conrad Strassle, Carl Strassle, Anthony Strassle, Laurence Strassle, and Eugene Strassle. She is survived by her siblings, George Strassle, Mary Ann Hight, Charlsie Paladino.
Wilma was known for her strong faith and love of family. Together Wilma and Harry had five dear children: Deborah Banda married to Tony, Judy Ladd widow to Ronald, Gregory Maddox married to Lynn, Harry Maddox Jr. married to JoLynn, and Steven Maddox married to Julie.
Wilma was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Janna Rodriquez, Rachel Butler, Lori Johnson, Brian Ladd, Timothy Ladd, Heather Gregory, David Maddox, Dustin Maddox, Renee Maddox, and Claire Maddox.
She also had fifteen great grandchildren: Jesse Rodriguez, Janessa Rodriquez, Molly Ojeda, Jacob Butler, Ava Johnson, Levi Johnson, Kiara Ladd, Edward Gregory, Forrest Gregory, Brooklyn Maddox, Presley Maddox, Ryleigh Maddox, Evelyn Maddox, Deacon Maddox, and Witten Maddox.
Wilma will be laid to rest on Saturday November 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., Grove Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75228.
A visitation for Wilma will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A committal will occur Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A reception will occur Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
