Mrs. Winnie (Wendy) R. Porter was born on June 30, 1952. She was born to the late Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Rosie Lee Turner-Baker in Rayville, LA. Wendy accepted God at an early age. She was baptized and attended St. Peter’s Rock Baptist Church in Rayville, LA. She graduated from Eula D. Britton High School in 1970 in Rayville, LA. She moved to Dallas, TX and attended Drone Training and Educational School and El Centro Community College. She worked part-time as a Hostess at Steak House Unique. She met and joined in union Mr. Johnny R. Porter where unto them four children were born. Wendy worked for a short period of time at Go Trailways and later as a Contact Lens Technician at C&H Contact Lens, where she worked until 1989. She devoted the rest of her life helping to raise her grandchildren, cooking, decorating, and shopping.
Wendy is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Emma and Jimmy Turner, and her paternal grandparents, Leatha and Emmit Baker, and her parents Lawrence Baker and Rosie Lee Turner-Baker and three brother in-law, Larry Wright, Harry Jones, and Sam Rivers, Jr.
Wendy leaves to cherish in her memory: husband, Johnny Porter; three daughters, Yolanda Catina Porter,
Felicia Broadway (Wayne), and Shunte Porter all of Dallas, Texas; one son, Zachery Porter of Dallas, Texas; six grandsons, Timothy Ellis, Jr (Antwenequa), Joshua Ellis, Kweisi Brown, Christian Devonta Jamison, Zaquan Porter, and Elijah Broadway all of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters, Zaquala Porter and Zarihya Porter both of Dallas Texas; one great-grandson Josiah McCutcheon; six sisters, Leatha Oliver, Emma Carter, Lizzie Baker, and Rosie Baker all of Dallas, Texas, Vera Baker of Monroe, LA and Dorothy Jones of Rayville, LA; one brother, Lawrence Baker, Jr of Dallas, Texas; her mother in-law, Betty Porter-Taylor of Oil City, LA; six sister in-laws, Johnnie Carter of Oil City, LA, Annette Ivory, Lennies Aziz, Debbie Henderson, Stephanie Wills all of Shreveport, LA and Joyce Elie of Natchitoches, LA ; and two brother in-laws, Clarence Rivers and Calvin Rivers of Shreveport, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friend, Mary Harper.
