Alan J. Vale

Alan James Vale, 94, of Danbury, CT, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, peacefully in his sleep. He battled an illness over his last year and ultimately came to rest at the Regional Hospice in Danbury. He was the husband of Joan and father of Michael, Daniel, Christine, and Timothy.

Alan was born in the Bronx, NY, son of Irish immigrants Thomas and Shiela Vale. Soon after high school graduation he left home and began to see the United States. At 19 years old he joined the Air Force and served the following 5 years throughout the Korean war and beyond. He was a patriot who truly loved his country. Those years shaped his future love of aviation which guided decades to come.

He flew from sea planes all the way up to the 747 with Pan American World Airways. He traveled the world before and during his 35 years with Pan Am. Alan had been to most countries and has a story from each. He stayed connected with aviation long after his retirement via being a member of the QB's and various other organizations.

Alan had his journey with Joan, an amazing wife of 57 years. They raised their four children on a quiet street in Brookfield before moving to Danbury. The family’s favorite place to vacation was Siesta Key, Florida. The soft beach sand drew them there for over 20 years. Alan and Joan valued their close relationships with so many friends in their community. It was truly evident how deeply people cared about Alan.

Alan’s last three weeks were a part of a truly dignified and compassionate experience at the Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. The care gave his family and dear friends the chance to share their love and connect throughout his final days. His family is forever grateful.

One thing that everyone will remember is that he was a storyteller. His experiences and adventures were countless. He shared stories of his travels throughout the world, all the prominent people that he met, and ability to always bring someone to laughter and amazement. Although he can say how he flew with all the pioneers, we truly believe that many say that they flew with Captain Al Vale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, CT with the Rev. Matthew Loman, Pastor, officiating. Burial in the State VA Cemetery at Middletown will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received from 4:00pm - 7:00pm on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
