Alfred E. Shandrowski, 77, beloved husband of 51 years, to Nancy L. (Schipul) Shandrowski, entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at home with his wife by his side. He was born in Bridgeport on September 7, 1942, the son to the late Emil Murto Shandrowski and Edna Cable Shandrowski.
Al served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965 and then was a Stratford Firefighter for over 30 years – painting houses with fellow firemen for many of those years. Al loved spending time with his family – games in the yard or at the nearby beach, playing pinnacle on Sunday afternoons and watching a good sci-fi movie were among his favorites. He was a patient, kind and loving man to anyone he knew.
Al was a fantastic dad to Amy Eklund and her husband Erik, and Wendy Saladyga and her husband Jeremy (who nicknamed Al “The Super” as he could fix anything). He was also the best “Papa” to his 5 grandchildren: Nicholas, Christian and Lucia Eklund and Josiah and Bryce Saladyga. Al is also survived by two brothers, Jesse Shandrowski of Seattle WA and Russell Shandrowski of Kansas City, MO and his nephews Erik and David Shandrowski.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family at the Green Funeral Home at 57 Main Street in Danbury from 5-8pm on Monday November 11th. Funeral services will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Avenue Norwalk.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, The Alzheimer's Association or Make A Wish Foundation of CT.
