

Artur “Arthur” Simao, 93, of Danbury, beloved husband of the late Januaria (Fernandes) Simao, passed away at Danbury Hospital, on Thursday, January 19, 2012. Artur was born in Fall River, MA, son of the late Francisco and Maria Simao. At the age of four his family immigrated to Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, where he was educated and lived until moving to Canada in 1958 and then on to Danbury in 1959. He worked for many years in the maintenance department of the former Viking Wire Company. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Portuguese Cultural Center.
He is survived by his daughter Maria Carvalho, of Bethel and son Donald M. Simao, of Danbury, two grandchildren, Jack C. Carvalho and wife Tara and Peter J. Carvalho and fiancée Nicole, three brothers: Bento Simao, of New Milford, Agostinho Simao and Hermano Simao, of Danbury, three sisters: Diamantina Carvalho and Maria Fernandes, of Canada and Herminia Furtado, of Danbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Joao Carlos Simao, four brothers: Manuel, Jose, Francisco and Joao Simao, his sister Conceicao Sousa and son-in-law Jack Carvalho.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
