Barry Michael Blades

Barry was born in Amityville, NY to Arthur and Norma Blades. Growing up in North Massapequa, NY, he attended Plainedge High School, where he lettered in tennis, football, bowling, soccer, and golf. He attended college at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, where he received bachelor degrees in Landscape Architecture and Science from both the Forestry School and Syracuse University.

Barry’s first job in landscape architecture was with Environmental Design Associates where he ultimately became a partner in the firm. He then started his own firm, later bringing on a partner to form Blades and Goven, where he designed the landscaping and ball fields for many schools in Connecticut. He was highly sought after for his expertise in artificial turf fields.

Barry was a passionate golfer, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Rules of Golf, and he was a highly sought-after golfing partner. He traveled extensively, both across the US and worldwide. While doing so he had the opportunity to engage in his other passion, photography. He was particularly interested in wildlife and landscape photography, which he turned into beautiful prints. He also enjoyed spending much of his time landscaping and renovating his home.

Barry was known as a go-to guy, a capable and reliable problem solver who would get things done. People enjoyed his company and sense of humor, finding him fun to be around.

He is survived by Margaret (Peggy) Andrews, his wife of 42 years; and his son, Michael; as well as his brother, Brian (wife Jane); and nephews: Adam and Eric. He was loved by the entire Andrews family. He leaves behind many lifelong friends, from childhood friends and golfing buddies, to coworkers and neighbors.
